Problem:
In the hillside village of Fontainhas, just north of Porto, Portugal, a sewage pumping station equipped with three submersible pumps had long been in need of rehabilitation.
For years, the station had been plagued by persistent operational issues, including frequent clogging, which required manual cleaning by municipal crews at least once a week. The situation also caused significant
discomfort for the local community, who endured severe odors.
The municipality, Águas do Centro Litoral, recognized the need for a more reliable, low-maintenance solution to better serve the residents and protect the environment.
Solution:
The three aging submersible pumps were replaced with an OverWatch® system, designed to handle 7,320 gpm at a head of 42 m (137 ft)—well-suited to meet the demands of the Fontainhas sewage pumping station.
The OverWatch® system operates efficiently at full capacity, ensuring that sewage is fully contained, which completely eliminates odors that had previously plagued the area.
The new system has brought several key benefits to the municipality, including:
- Less environmental impact
- Reduction in operational costs
- Less maintenance
- Improved efficiency
